Intro
1467 The Onin War breaks out, triggered by succession disputes within the Shogun's family and the influential clans that support them. Subsequently, the Muromachi Shogunate is reduced to a puppet, and Japan enters the Sengoku period.
This meant that the Shogunate, which should have served as Japan's central pillar, was effectively absent. Consequently, numerous powerful clans in the Sengoku period engaged in endless battles and acts of betrayal for power and honor, plunging Japan into an 'age of chaos.'
1546 Ashikaga Yoshiteru is inaugurated as the 13th Shogun of the Muromachi Shogunate.
However, the twelve years following her inauguration were a time of great hardship. She suffered the ordeal of being driven out of Kyoto by the Miyoshi clan. Eventually, Yoshiteru chose cooperation by appointing members of the Miyoshi clan to government posts within the Shogunate.
1564 However, Miyoshi Nagayoshi, the head of the Miyoshi clan, has died. As key senior retainers of the Miyoshi clan also pass away, the clan's power begins to wane. During this time, Shogun Ashikaga Yoshiteru mediates conflicts between daimyo across the country and fosters goodwill, strengthening the Shogunate's authority. But even as Yoshiteru struggles for the Shogunate's revival, dark clouds are slowly gathering...
February 1565. Guest begins his first steps as a retainer of the Shogunate. He follows the senior retainer Hosokawa Fujitaka to a field on the outskirts of the Nijo Palace.
