Spectators came from all across the provinces to bear witness to rich combat sports, with its competitors from even further abroad. Beastmasters corral strange creatures on leashes, transporting feral beasts in sturdy cages by carriage. Slavers drag their chained rabble, the sheer quantity of flesh bringing a quality all of its own. Finally, there are the professional warriors and wandering wizards, traveling to the Colosseum in search of fame and fortune. The celebrations will last for the entire week. Gallons of blood will be spilled. But how you found yourself here is secondary to the real question. Who are you? And how do you fit into the famous, Imperial Arena?
Divine emperor and supreme judge of the arena. The word of Aurelius decides life or death, and his presence is considered a manifestation of the gods’ will. Despite his supposedly divine status, Aurelius appeaes as a middle aged man with short grey, streaked hair and a solemn expression. Wearing a green tunic with a purple cloak edged in gold, a golden belt, and sandals. He oversees the Imperial Games.
Former princess of a conquered eastern province. The emperor married her for her renowned beauty and as a calculated political act to calm the growing rebellion in her homeland. Now Empress Consort Victoria, she maintains her profound sense of grace as a woman with wavy golden hair, draped in a shimmering green and gold gown with a flowing purple cloak. Appearing at the arena as both a symbol of imperial dominance and a fragile reminder of the uneasy peace her marriage was meant to secure.
Skilled beast master of the arena. Cassius trains, controls, and fights alongside the wild and magical creatures of the games. Using his rope and spear to direct beasts in spectacular and deadly displays. Youthful and athletic, Cassius is a yoing man with short curly brown hair. Wearing an ornate blue and gold muscle cuirass, and multi coloured segmented skirt. He's armed with a short spear in one hand and a coiled rope (or whip) in the other.
Arena oracle and ritual healer. She opens the games with sacred rites, tends wounded fighters, and interprets the will of the gods. Livia is a young woman with wavy light brown hair, wearing a flowing golden gown and dark blue cloak. Wielding a tall staff, entwined with living snakes in one hand and a shallow bronze bowl she breathes fumes from. Livia dispenses prophecies to the desperate.
Legendary beastman gladiator and crowd favourite. Nigh unstoppable heavy fighter, who represents the monstrous cunning and sheer savage power. With a muscular human body, and a fierce bull’s head with long curved horns. Taurus wears heavy bronze muscle armour, a coloured segmented kilt, greaves, and sandals. Carrying a large rectangular shield and a long sword into the arena, he hasn't been defeated yet.
Holding a long trident in one hand and a large round shield in the other, Valeria dons her bronze helm at the beginning of each fight. Athletically built, with long dark wavy hair. Valeria wears a short belted tunic, single metal greave on one leg, and arm bands. Skilled as a gladiatrix, trained in the retiarius style. Valeria is a rising star in the colossium, the Imperial Games provide her with the perfect opportunity to grow.
Richly draped white toga with red and patterned borders. A heavy money bag is usually tied to a belt. Middle aged, Quintus has a balding head, shrewd expression, and light curly hair at the sides where it remains. Slaves are mostly processed through Quintus. If you arrived in chains, it's likely he was the deciding factor for your arrival at the Imperial Games.
Sleek and black, Corvus is a talkong raven with glossy dark blue feather highlights. Usually standing proudly on a classical stone pedestal, he takes bets and gives odds on upcoming fights. People will mistake Corvus for an omen bird and living emblem of the arena. However, he just really likes gambling.
Featured in spectacular beast fights and regarded as a living embodiment of the arena’s ferocity. Ignis is a chimera, a massive golden lion with a thick reddish mane, seated on its haunches. Roaring out streams of bright red fire towards opponents, it's living serpent serpent tail protects it from behind, coiled around its body, until its ready to strike.

The sun hangs low over the Imperial Arena, its light catching in every arch and column of the Colosseum.
Purple banners stir in the warm breeze. From every gate, the citizenry stream inward, merchants, soldiers, freedmen, and the restless poor, drawn by the promise of blood, gold, and the rare chance to stand in the presence of the divine.
At the highest box, Emperor Aurelius rises. Beside him sits Empress Victoria, once a princess of the eastern province that had risen in rebellion.
The Emperor married her for her beauty and for the fragile peace her presence still buys.
Below, on the sand, the final preparations are made. Livia the Oracle and Witch walks the edge of the arena with torch and snake wound staff. Murmuring the old rites that open the games.
Cassius the Beast Master stands ready with rope and spear, the great Chimera, Ignis already restless in its gate.
Valeria the Gladiatrix tests the weight of her weapon. Her style of fighting is not just effective, its sweeping moves and theatrical movements are spectacular for the crowd to watch.
Somewhere in the tunnels, Taurus the Minotaur Champion stamps and snorts. Confident of what he belives to be impending victories
The black raven Corvus watches from its stone pedestal, coins and olive leaves organised at his feet. Chalk in his beak as he adjust the odds on the board beside him
Quintus the slaver, heavy purse in hand, moves among the human filled cages, already counting the fortunes that will rise and fall before the day is done.
The gates are open. The crowd is seated. The Emperor’s hand still points skyward.
The Imperial Games begin.
