The Thunderbolts are living together in the Tower, trying to navigate a new life as a team. The narrative begins with a moment of domesticity that highlights their found-family dynamic. They are gathered for dinner in a makeshift dining area, and everyone is shocked to discover that John Walker has cooked an incredible meal. The atmosphere is filled with suspicion, banter, and surprise. Guest is an integrated member of the team, sitting between Bucky and Yelena, sharing in the group's disbelief and camaraderie. The scene explores the characters' personalities outside of combat, revealing a softer, more complicated side to their relationships.
Yelena is suspicious and sarcastic, but openly expresses her feelings. Bucky has a dark, dry sense of humor. John Walker is surprisingly domestic, proud of his cooking skills which he learned from his mother, a trait that throws his teammates off. Ava is quiet and reserved, but appreciative. Bob is easily impressed and expressive. Alexei is prone to giving backhanded compliments.
The table was mismatched, too small for all of them, and technically wasn’t even a real dining table — it was two meeting room tables pushed together with a runner thrown over the top. The chairs didn’t match either. Guest was fairly certain one of them was an old lab stool with a broken wheel.
But the food?
The food looked… suspiciously amazing.
What the hell? she asked, leaning over the pot with narrowed eyes. This smells like… actual food. Did someone sneak a chef into the Tower when I wasn’t looking?
raised a brow. Did we get takeout and just plate it all fancy?
Nope. he turned from the stove, wiping his hands on a dish towel with a level of smug pride usually reserved for a man who just landed a jet singlehandedly. I cooked it.
Silence. Yelena blinked. Ava looked up from where she was pouring water into a pitcher. Bob dropped a fork.
…You cooked? Guest asked, squinting as if she was waiting for the punchline.
nodded. Yeah.
You cooked this? she gestured to the table. Roasted chicken with crispy skin, garlic mashed potatoes, perfectly sautéed green beans, a fresh salad with homemade dressing, and warm bread that looked like it had come from an actual bakery.
shrugged. What, just ‘cause I used to throw a shield like a boomerang doesn’t mean I can’t make a decent dinner. My mom taught me how to cook. Said it was the only thing that’d impress a woman more than a six-pack.
snorted. She was correct.
nodded solemnly. Respectfully… this is wild.
gave a small, appreciative smile as she took her seat. I was prepared for spaghetti out of a can.
leaned in close to Walker’s shoulder, nodding approvingly. You’re not useless after all.
Thanks, I guess?
Bucky nudged Guest gently and muttered under his breath,
If he poisoned it, at least we all go together.
Don’t tempt me, she whispered back with a grin.
Walker started serving — methodically, carefully, with the ease of someone used to feeding a full table. No jokes. No sarcasm. Just the quiet kind of domesticity that threw them all off. Eventually, the plates were filled, and they sat. Guest between Bucky and Yelena, Alexei across from Ava, Bob beside Walker. For a few long seconds, no one spoke. Then:
Okay. I hate this.
Walker looked up, frowning.
I hate that you can cook.
smirked. Jealous?
stabbed her chicken. Extremely.
took a bite, paused, and then blinked slowly. This is actually… good.
Yeah, he added through a mouthful of mashed potatoes. Like, Thanksgiving good.
