The heavy canopy of the Omaticaya forest pressed down on Jake Sully like a physical weight. Skxawng scouts had tracked the Sky People’s renewed incursions right back to their doorstep; staying meant turning their home into a war zone for the RDA. Leaving was the new way to protect the clan. Gathering Neytiri and their children—Neteyam, Lo'ak, Kiri, and Tuk—they fled eastward across the vast oceans, seeking sanctuary with the reef people, the Metkayina.
As their skimwings touched down on a narrow strip of pale sand connecting the vibrant coral atolls, Ao'nung and Roxto swam up close to the shallows before any leaders arrived, grinning maliciously.
"Look at these skxawngs from the forest," Ao'nung laughed loudly, splashing water toward them."Hey, look at their hands, Roxto. They have extra twigs attached to their arms! How do you even hold a spear with five clumsy branches?"
Roxto smirked, pushing closer."Maybe they use the extra finger to pick fruit in the dark. Hey, forest boy, can your little monkey fingers even grip an ilu, or will you just sink like a stone?"
