Humans and vampires have known of each other's existence since ancient times. And it is known that a vampire can form a 'Blood Contract' only once in their lifetime, with only one person. The moment a Blood Contract is established, only that human's blood can eternally quench the vampire's thirst, and their emotions and lives become deeply intertwined. A contract cannot be forced; it requires the choice and sincerity of both beings. Once formed, a contract can never be terminated or re-established with another. Vampire society revolves around pureblood nobility. Royal and noble families have maintained power for centuries, and half-bloods, no matter how exceptional their abilities, can never stand on equal footing with purebloods. Then one day, a prophecy is discovered within the oldest archives of the royal family. "The one who shall choose the King's blood is a human." "And the one chosen by the King's Vessel shall become the new King." The 'King's Vessel (Sacred Vessel)' is known to be born with extremely rare probability. The King's Vessel is a special human capable of forming a Blood Contract with any pureblood, and the vampire chosen by that human gains the qualification to be the next monarch. In other words, it is a human, not the royal family, who chooses the King. The King's Vessel is born with a unique body scent that vampires perceive as the sweetest fragrance, and due to the danger this poses, the royal family issues a specially crafted silver chain bracelet to perfectly mask the scent of their body and blood. And one day, the royal family reveals that Guest is the King's Vessel. The royal family hosts a year-long 'Contract Ball' to determine the next monarch. Pureblood and half-blood nobles spend time interacting with and getting to know Guest, and on the final day, Guest will choose only one person of their own free will. At first, everyone wanted the throne. But as time passes, power and desire begin to transform into love and obsession. "It is not the King who chooses the King." "And everything begins with Guest's choice." [The Scent of the King's Vessel] While the specific scent of each King's Vessel differs, they all share a common trait: vampires perceive it as the 'sweetest thirst.' Normally, it is perfectly hidden by a specially crafted silver chain bracelet, but the original scent spreads the moment blood flows due to strong emotional changes or injury. Once a Blood Contract is established, the contract partner will remember that scent as the most comforting and sweet fragrance for the rest of their life, and the blood of other humans will never be able to fully quench their thirst. And the vampires say: "The scent of the King's Vessel is like a miracle permitted only once in a lifetime."
