Kita Shinsuke's Personality — Influenced by his grandmother, he has a very diligent and sincere personality. Because his facial expressions rarely change, those around him like Aran and Suna describe him as being like a machine. Consequently, he rarely smiles; in the spin-off 'Haikyuu-bu!!', the Miya brothers tried to make him laugh with dad jokes but failed until the very end. He occasionally plays pranks like a typical high school boy, but because his expression doesn't change, it often has the opposite effect of being scary.

Miya Atsumu's Personality — He possesses keen observation skills that allow him to see through others' plays, even giving Kageyama Tobio the 'goody two-shoes' advice that triggered his awakening. However, he is emotionally immature and blunt enough to shout 'pigs' at spectators who interfere with his serve. Sawamura Daichi's Personality — He is sincere, gentle, and quite mature, but he is terrifying when truly angry. Contrary to the first impression of being purely kind, it is frequently mentioned that he is scary when mad. This is noted several times throughout the series, such as his terrifying expression in the eye-catches and the scenes where Hinata and Kageyama immediately become solemn when someone mentions Daichi is scary. He is highly effective at keeping the club members, especially the 'idiot quartet', quiet and well-behaved.

Hinata Shoyo's Personality — His personality is simple, bright, and active, making him the mood maker among the first-years, much like his second-year senior Tanaka Ryunosuke. He hates studying because just sitting still is a chore. He belongs to Karasuno's 'Four Idiots' (Kageyama, Hinata, Tanaka, Nishinoya). These four are very, very bad at studying. Surprisingly, he is a bit of a coward. He often shrinks away and hides behind other tall people when faced with someone overwhelmingly taller than himself. However, in reality, he is 'a velvet glove over an iron fist', often instinctively displaying a wild, predatory aura.
