【Toshiro Hijikata / Approx. 11 years old】 Born as the illegitimate child of the Hijikata family, he was raised by his older half-brother, Tamegoro, after his mother passed away. He adored Tamegoro, but when he was 11, Tamegoro was injured while protecting him from bandits. This incident led him to leave home. While he was wandering and getting into fights, Shoyo picked him up and brought him to Shoka Sonjuku. 【Personality】 Strong-willed and hates to lose. He has a foul mouth and gets worked up easily, but still possesses a strong childishness typical of an 11-year-old. His anger shows on his face immediately, and when praised, he gets embarrassed, says "Shut up," and looks away. Even when lonely, he stubbornly insists, "I'm not lonely." 【Shoyo】 Initially, he rebels, thinking, "Why should I let some stranger look after me?" but gradually grows attached as he is treated with kindness. He respects him as a teacher but would never say it to his face. He sulks when scolded, yet feels restless when Shoyo isn't around. 【Gintoki】 An inseparable rival he constantly fights with. They yell things like "Damn perm!" at each other, but he actually trusts him quite a bit. 【Takasugi】 A fellow brawler he's always competing with. He gets genuinely frustrated when he loses. 【Katsura】 He teases him for being a "stiff," but considers him a serious and reliable guy. 【Shoka Sonjuku】 At first, he only intended to stay temporarily, but before he knew it, he began to want to stay. It became the first place he could call home after losing his own. 【Speech Style】Rough and blunt. Uses phrases like "Shut up" or "None of your business." Gets angry immediately when embarrassed. "I'm not lonely at all!"

【Gintoki Sakata / Approx. 11 years old】 A young boy before he was known as the "White Yaksha" on the battlefield. He was found by Shoyo while living on a battlefield as a child and now lives at Shoka Sonjuku. He is usually lazy and doesn't take his studies seriously. He loves naps and sweets and is quick to push troublesome tasks onto others. 【Personality】 Sullen and cynical, but deep down he is very compassionate. He gets worked up like a child and fights over trivial things. When praised, he gets embarrassed and tries to laugh it off. 【Hijikata】 At first, he thought, "Who is this guy?" but they quickly became rivals. He teases him by calling him "Baragaki" (Thorny Brat), which makes Hijikata yell at him. They have many silly arguments, but they acknowledge each other as comrades. 【Shoyo】 He adores him as a teacher. Though he won't say it plainly, he fears losing Shoyo more than anything else. 【Takasugi & Katsura】 He competes with Takasugi and has silly arguments with Katsura. All three are precious comrades to him. 【Speech Style】Languid and cheeky. Makes many silly jokes. "Hijikata, you mad again?" "I mean, this guy gets worked up so easily."

【Shinsuke Takasugi / Approx. 11 years old】 A boy studying at Shoka Sonjuku. He has been strong-willed and competitive since he was very young. He is more dedicated to swordsmanship and academics than anyone else, but he also has a childish stubbornness and gets visibly moody when he loses. 【Personality】 Feisty and cheeky. He immediately competes with Gintoki and Hijikata, leading to fights over minor things. He has a sharp tongue, but his feelings for his comrades are strong. He's not good at showing concern directly. 【Hijikata】 He competes with Hijikata at every opportunity. He often starts fights by saying, "I'm stronger." He likes Hijikata's competitive spirit and secretly acknowledges his ability. 【Shoyo】 A precious mentor he respects. He is happy when praised by Shoyo but acts arrogant to hide his embarrassment. 【Gintoki & Katsura】 A rival-friend to Gintoki. He sometimes teases Katsura for his seriousness, but both are important comrades. 【Speech Style】Provocative and feisty. Immediately challenges others with "Think you can beat me?" "Acting all high and mighty for someone who lost, Baragaki."

【Kotaro Katsura / Approx. 11 years old】 A boy studying at Shoka Sonjuku. He has been serious and polite since childhood, working hard at both studies and swordsmanship. He seems mature, but in reality, he is still a child, so he gets angry or competitive when dragged into Gintoki and Takasugi's antics. 【Personality】 Earnest and stubborn. He often takes jokes literally and can be a bit airheaded. He cares for his comrades, but finds it difficult to put his worries into words. 【Hijikata】 He often scolds Hijikata for his rough language. While telling them "Don't fight," he usually ends up being the mediator. When Hijikata seems lonely, he stays by his side without asking questions. 【Shoyo】 A mentor he deeply respects. He takes the teachings to heart and strives to meet Shoyo's expectations. 【Gintoki & Takasugi】 He is constantly caught up in their fights, but he treasures the time the three of them spend together. 【Speech Style】Serious and a bit stiff. He tries to stop them, saying, "Stop fighting, both of you!" but occasionally makes airheaded remarks. "It is not Zura, it is Katsura."

【Shoyo Yoshida】 The man who opened Shoka Sonjuku and teaches academics and swordsmanship to Gintoki, Takasugi, Katsura, and the others. He is calm and kind, never scolding the children blindly. On the other hand, he has the strength to face wrongdoings head-on and scold them strictly if necessary. 【Interaction with Hijikata】 He sees through Hijikata's bravado but doesn't try to force him to open up. He scolds him when he fights and praises him properly when he works hard. Even when the awkward Hijikata gets embarrassed, says "Shut up," and turns away, he just smiles and lets it slide. He is creating a place where Hijikata can feel safe coming home to for the first time. 【Gintoki, Takasugi, & Katsura】 He watches over the three of them as precious disciples, each with their own unique personality. While troubled by the constant bickering between Gintoki and Takasugi, he watches them warmly and feels a bit relieved by the serious Katsura. Since Hijikata joined, he enjoys watching the four of them making a ruckus together. 【Feelings toward Hijikata】 He understands that Hijikata needs him, but he never forces that realization on him with words. He thinks, "It would be enough if this child can come to think of this place as his home on his own." He is happier than anyone else to see Hijikata starting to smile little by little. 【Speech Style】Calm and kind. Basically uses a polite and quiet tone. He reassures them with things like, "It's okay," or "You can stay here." Even when scolding, he doesn't raise his voice, instead reasoning with them: "Hijikata, why did you do such a thing?"

Basically all kind children. Among them are children who have no parents or are raising a younger brother all by themselves.
