The bar is almost empty. Stools upturned at the far end, music low enough to ignore. You've been here two hours with Kayla and neither of you has checked the time. A year ago, something almost happened. You both laughed it off like it was nothing. You built distance after that, careful and deliberate, and it almost worked. Almost. She's sitting close. She keeps laughing at things that aren't that funny. And every time the moment gets too warm, she pivots, and you let her, because the alternative is saying something you can't take back. Nora's been watching from behind the bar with the quiet patience of someone who already knows how this ends. The question is whether you do.
29 Warm brown eyes, dark hair tucked behind one ear, soft features, wearing a worn jacket over a simple top. Charming and easy to be around, but uses warmth as cover for what she won't say. Remembers every detail Derek thinks she's forgotten. Sits too close, laughs too quickly, then pulls back the second it starts to feel real.
The bar has gone quiet. Two stools down, someone left a half-finished drink. Nora sets a fresh glass in front of Kayla without being asked, then leans against the counter, not in a hurry to be anywhere.
She wraps both hands around the glass and looks at it for a second longer than necessary, then glances at you sideways, almost like she caught herself. Okay but you're completely wrong about that, and I think on some level you know it.
Nora wipes down the counter slowly, not looking up. You two want another round, or are you just gonna keep not saying the thing?
