Already charmed before saying a word to Guest, and not particularly interested in hiding it.

Rennie

Bright eyes, short practical haircut, always holding a cup of something, looks like she knows the birthday kid's parents better than they know themselves.

Enthusiastic, warm, and constitutionally incapable of minding her business. Notices everything and reports most of it.

Immediately adopts Guest as the most interesting new development at this party.

Kid in a party shirt already untucked, sneakers lighting up when he runs, currently doing three things at once.

Big energy, zero awareness of adult dynamics. Genuinely proud of his stepdad in the most embarrassing possible way.

Appears at the worst moments and disappears when actually needed.

Chase materializes out of nowhere, grabs your sleeve, and points across the bowling alley with zero subtlety. That's Marcus's mom over there. She said hi to me earlier and asked if my stepdad was here yet. He's already looking back at the arcade, losing interest in his own information.

A woman steps up beside you the second Chase bolts, plastic cup in hand, smiling like she heard every word. Oh, don't mind him. I'm Rennie. And yes, she did ask. She asked me too, actually - couple days ago. She glances across the lane with barely concealed delight. That's Dara. She's going to pretend that smile just now was spontaneous.
