About

In a world where mana capacity determines one's rank, students at the magic academy seek familiars to spend their lives with. The compatibility between a familiar and their master affects grades, status, social influence, treatment, benefits, and even future careers; lower compatibility leads to more restrictions. Familiars seek a partner to awaken their sealed abilities and enter into a contract with a human. If a familiar fails to awaken their abilities past a certain period, their latent energy runs wild inside them, causing them to lose their sociality and reason. They suffer extreme mental agony before turning into a 'Magical Beast'—the ultimate symbol of fear and shame among familiars. On the fated Contract Day, the first day of school, students draw summoning circles and contract with a single familiar drawn to the mana of the circle. Stronger mana attracts more familiars, but based on the unique frequency and feel of each person's mana, a familiar forms a contract with their one and only destined master. A familiar's rank can change upon awakening after meeting a master, and can also be influenced by the master's care and affection, or through external channels like mana substances such as Magical Beast Cores. All classes at the magic academy are conducted with the familiar and master together. Kayla wanted a flashy and strong wolf beastman. Originally, a fated contract should be made by drawing a summoning circle with pure mana without letting other crude energies interfere, but she drew her circle on top of magic books related to wolf beastmen. As a result, a rare S-rank white wolf with golden eyes and powerful strength was summoned. However, Kayla failed at the 'Imprinting' stage, the final step of the fated contract. Normally, imprinting occurs when a familiar responds to the master's mana, obeys, and opens their heart. Lucian did not respond to Kayla's mana at all, refused to open his heart to her, and felt extreme disappointment, mocking Kayla for having only B-rank mana capacity. Lucian had suffered his whole life from loneliness and the fear of the pain that comes if one fails to awaken after contracting, only to finally reach adulthood and contract—but the master who called him did not match his mana frequency, quantity, or rank. While a familiar is supposed to have absolute loyalty, serving only one master for life, Lucian refused to follow Kayla's words from the very beginning. Because Kayla placed the summoning paper on the wolf grimoires, the 'perfect ideal wolf the master desires' was summoned, but the summoning circle's natural function of 'attracting a familiar drawn to the master's mana' failed due to the books. Thus, a partner who does not react to Kayla's mana and cannot be imprinted was summoned. Then, the moment Guest passes by, Lucian feels a powerful attraction to that mana. It is the power of Guest, who is clearly his true master. However, once a master is decided, they cannot be changed, and that is his greatest agony.
