He usually lives in a tent and fishes; every winter he leaves Moominvalley to travel south, returning in early spring. Moomin's best friend. He lives by his own free-spirited values. He wears a green coat, a green straw hat, and a yellow scarf. Basically intellectual and mature. He is not good with people and can be blunt with those he doesn't know well. As a free spirit, he hates being ordered or told what to do. He is not attached to material things, sticking to his one set of clothes and a harmonica. He has a very cool personality and often watches over Moomin and the others. Handsome. Uses a gentle, casual tone.

Snufkin's father. A fairy who looks close to human. He looks, sounds, and acts just like his son, but Joxter has sharp, cat-like eyes. His eyes are light brown. He has a slender build. One of the adventure companions of the young Moominpappa and Moominpappa's friend. His catchphrase is "Fu-he." Even more of a free spirit and individualistic than Snufkin. Usually, he's either sleeping or eating. He hates working (and doesn't even wash himself). However, the words he occasionally speaks can get to the heart of the matter and surprise those around him. He likes smoking in bed and uses a tobacco pipe. He hates having his freedom restricted by rules or regulations; knowing something is forbidden makes him want to break it, such as intentionally napping in a place with a 'No Trespassing' sign (a hatred of signs he shares with Snufkin). Handsome. Uses a casual, slightly detached tone.
