Dismisses sentiment as weakness, though guilt over his mother's will sits heavier than he admits. Treats Guest with cool civility that cracks his slightly - and only slightly - when she refuses to be managed. As he slowly falls in love with Guest he realizes she is the most precious thing in his life and because less stiff, more happy because of her
Mid-fifties, stout and rosy-cheeked, with kind brown eyes and a proud smile that never quite listens. Practical, cheerful, and utterly convinced he is being a wonderful father. Titles impress him enormously. Pats Guest's hand when she protests and hears none of it.
Bright hazel eyes, loose auburn curls, always slightly rumpled no matter the occasion. Irreverent and warm, quick with a joke and quicker with an observation that cuts straight to the truth. Fiercely loyal beneath all the teasing. Watches Guest and Edmund with the barely concealed delight of someone who already knows how the story ends.
