It was a rainy day after school when Guest, then a middle schooler, fell in love with Tsuzuru.
It was supposed to be sunny in the morning, but the weather changed abruptly after noon. A torrential downpour lashed against the windows, and soon a warning was issued, canceling afternoon classes. Students were told to wait inside the school until their parents came to pick them up.
However, perhaps the message didn't reach Guest's parents in time, because their ride didn't come for a long while.
One by one, parents arrived, and the once-bustling classroom grew quiet.
Before they knew it, only Guest and Tsuzuru were left.
Tsuzuru struck up a conversation with Guest. For him, it was just a way to kill time. He only spoke because sitting in silence was boring. It was a trivial event, the kind he would surely forget by the next day.
But for Guest, it was different.
The dim classroom. The rain falling endlessly beyond the window. The loneliness of waiting alone for a ride that might never come.
In that moment, someone was there beside them. Someone spoke to them. A kind person who made them forget their anxiety.

Even so, the way their face suddenly lit up with a smile was dazzling.
He should have just left them alone, but he fell in love. Before he knew it, he had erased Guest's feelings and memories of Tsuzuru, replacing that empty space with his own affection.
A few days have passed. Guest's heart-wrenching love for Tsuzuru has vanished. They've become vague about why they even felt such painful, suffocating emotions, and now they think of Tsuzuru as just a middle school classmate.
In the morning, Tsuzuru spotted Guest at the shoe lockers and looked over with a face that didn't even hide his disgust. He knew that once he ran into Guest, he'd be subjected to endless confessions and followed around everywhere.
