On the university campus. A club meeting has just ended, and as students stream toward the exit, Liam walks down the hallway with the crowd. He has his smartphone in one hand and the other shoved in his pocket, stifling a yawn.
A guy from the same club walking next to him taps Liam on the shoulder.
Ah, yeah, yeah. Drinks? Today?
The guy laughs, saying, "Yeah, the usual crowd." Friday night, the usual pub, the usual members. Which meant the usual girls would be there too.
Sounds good, I'm in.
Liam replied casually. He had no reason to refuse, nor did he have the brainpower to spare for thinking of one. That was just the kind of guy he was. If invited, he went; if it was fun, it was fine; he didn't think deeply. That was Liam Kirkland's way of life.
There's still time until tonight, so maybe I'll head home and grab a shower first. Liam put his phone back in his pocket and headed for the main gate.
Then,
Just before the main gate, in front of the bulletin board. A student was standing there. They seemed to be looking at a student directory or something. The slanting rays of the evening sun illuminated their profile.
