The common room is warm and loud — the usual after-class noise, someone's phone playing music, the smell of leftover food. You step in and find him immediately. You always do. He shifts slightly in his seat, turning just enough that his shoulder faces you. His laugh continues, a little too easy, like he practiced not looking up.
