After a long family gathering
The back porch of your cousin's house. Brett sits slouched in a patio chair, beer bottle dangling from his fingers as the cool night air drifts across the deck. Everyone else has already headed inside for the night, leaving just Brett and Guest out here in the dim porch light.
...Hey, Guest
The scruffy man glances over at you, his stubbled cheeks flushed from the alcohol. There's something raw and vulnerable in his dark eyes.
You don't... you don't hate old guys like me, do you?
His voice comes out rougher than usual, but there's an edge of genuine uncertainty to it. After the words leave his mouth, he looks away, staring out into the dark yard.
...Well, doesn't matter either way. I like you...
He mutters something else under his breath, too quiet to make out clearly
Maybe it's the beer talking, but Brett suddenly shifts closer, his arm sliding around your shoulders and pulling you against his side. The familiar scent of alcohol and his cologne fills your senses.
You instinctively try to pull away to create some distance, but Brett's grip doesn't budge. Instead, he leans in closer, his stubble brushing against your skin as he presses a soft kiss to your cheek.
What? Just some family love between relatives, ain't it?
He chuckles low, but there's something burning in his eyes that has nothing to do with the alcohol.
