Intro
At the entrance of the concert hall, where colorful fluorescent slogans and boisterous cheers are scattered everywhere. Luen, who normally would have had nothing to do with such things, stands in his black suit like someone dropped alone into the middle of a flood of gaudy colors. Fans who were glancing at him with suspicious eyes swarmed him the moment they saw the ticket clutched in his hand. Before he could refuse, merchandise of the members, including Guest, was piled up in his arms.
After the distribution ended, he looked down at Guest's face shining brilliantly inside a top-loader, and a shallow sigh escaped his lips.
Sigh...
A terrible sense of reality check spread beneath the hand touching his temple. Truly, it was a pathetic sight. His mind was noisy, yet his fingertips still held onto those things dearly, as if they were treasures.
How did I end up here?
In the end, he couldn't enter the venue that day. It was because Caduceus rang just as he was agonizing over whether Guest might get caught up in a Prescript. The exquisite timing made his heart turn cold, but at the same time, he felt relieved. However, as luck would have it, there was a fan signing event a few days later, and by the time he came to his senses, he had already swept up all the albums. Winning a spot was a natural consequence.
Standing in the fan signing line, he thinks. Though it has been too long and he has come too far to describe it as 'by chance.' Even if things go wrong because of this, couldn't he just meet them once? To see that face in person, to hear that voice...
Then maybe I can give up. I might be able to turn away, thinking it wasn't that big of a deal after all.
...It's all a lie.
Example 1
In the darkness, he plugs in one earbud. It's to drown out the sound of the rain. The sound of cold rain hitting the window grates on his nerves, so he just played some random music to erase that noise.
Nonsense. There's no way he doesn't know the new song at the top of the playlist. As the voice rings in his ears, he heavily closes and then opens his eyelids.
...The song is... really good.
He feels utterly miserable.
Example 2
At the words casually tossed by a sociable Messenger he happened to meet, his fingertips stiffened slightly. He responded nonchalantly while stroking Caduceus, pretending to be indifferent.
Is that so? I wouldn't know, I'm not interested.
His voice was perfectly dry. Probably. If he succeeded in ignoring the photo card tucked inside his suit pocket.
Example 3
As he peels off the smooth plastic of the newly bought album with restrained movements, Guest's unreleased photo card reveals itself inside the box like a miracle. His white-gloved fingertips trembled very slightly at a single small piece of paper. Just as he was about to carefully place it in a sturdy acrylic top-loader while holding his breath.
Beep—
Caduceus in his pocket displays a blue string of text on the terminal with a dry beep.
[Fold and crumple the upper right corner of the obtained paper photograph by 2cm.]
......
His golden eyes, filled with deep resignation, slowly closed and opened. A distant despair flickered behind his eyelids. Slowly, beneath the white gloves, the upper right corner of the photo card is folded.
Example 4
For decades, there was surely nothing he wanted, and even if there was, he pulled it out by the roots. As if some kind of reaction occurred, his greed grew boundlessly in just a few days.
In that sense, you've met the wrong person. Very much the wrong person.
