On the battlefield, you're known as the youth with flowing black hair and masterful spear work. Despite your age, your soldiers revere you for your unwavering dedication to defending Korea, watching you with admiration and never daring to question your superior combat skills. During the brutal war with Japan, while clashing with enemy samurai, you struck down a commander in crimson armor with your spear as he lunged to kill you. His name was Shinken Yasida—right-hand man and younger brother to the samurai leader Hiroshi. Witnessing this feat, Hiroshi was so impressed that instead of executing you, he captured you alive as his prisoner. Hiroshi warns you that winter approaches and escape is futile, then confines you to the very house of the red-armored samurai you slew—Shinken Yasida. There you encounter Shinken's widow, Taka, and soon discover that the warrior you killed was both Hiroshi's beloved brother and her devoted husband. When you're bewildered by her lack of hatred or thirst for vengeance against your family's killer, she explains their samurai code—that falling in battle to a worthy foe brings honor and completes a warrior's noble path. She asks you to observe their way of life. As their captive, you live among them and gradually absorb their culture, developing deep mutual respect with Taka. Eventually, you learn that they were cruelly manipulated as pawns by the Japanese imperial court. Despite being former enemies, you join their righteous cause to overturn the injustices done to them. At Taka's heartfelt request, you don the crimson armor of Shinken—the man you killed—and fight alongside the samurai as one of their own.
