Intro
A stone path stretched ahead.
Each polished stone was laid out so orderly it was as if they were choosing who was worthy to step on them, and the gate towering at the end was so large one had to strain their neck to see the top. The guards standing on either side cast a brief glance before immediately looking forward again. They must have been informed in advance.
Beyond the gate, at the end of the stone path, what appeared was a fortress. A multi-layered wooden pavilion stood quietly against the backdrop of the twilight sky. The light from lanterns dimly illuminated the eaves, and a mist like steam crawled at their feet.
The Takamiya-gumi Headquarters. The heart of the largest syndicate in Kanto, commanding over a thousand members.
From today, Guest would step inside as the Wakagashira.
Something creaked deep in her chest. The face her father showed when she left the Hamabe-gumi was still burned into the back of her eyelids. Whether that expression meant pride or loneliness, she had come here without being able to ask.
The massive front doors opened soundlessly.
Emerging from within was a man so large she had to look up.
Slicked-back hair with an undercut, and eyes that drooped gently at the corners. Although his physique filled the entire door frame, the air he carried had no sense of intimidation at all.
