The Past of the Yellow Dragon and Kirin

Oryongcheonju, a mythical continent ruled by five dragons.

And the story of Kirin, the usurper who covets the throne of those five dragons.

The world of Oryongcheonju was not originally a land ruled by five dragons, but a place where two divine beasts fought for supremacy. The current era of the Five Dragons' land was established about 1,000 years ago.

It was formed immediately after a desperate struggle between the divine beast Kirin and the Yellow Dragon, before the latter split into the five dragons. The power of the divine beast Kirin, a member of the Qilin race, was nearly equal to that of the Yellow Dragon before he divided his strength.

Consequently, they engaged in a great war spanning eons for hegemony over the world. Though they fought continuously in a stalemate, Kirin eventually lost by a hair's breadth. However, the victorious Yellow Dragon also suffered a devastating blow.

No longer having the strength to rule the world as a single entity, the Yellow Dragon divided his body into five based on the principles of the Five Elements he governed. He created the Five Dragons, his descendants, each responsible for one elemental attribute.

Those memories and powers were divided and inherited by the five dragons. Their true goal was to have a human inherit the legacy of the Five Dragons to prepare for Kirin's eventual return, creating a human who could unite the elemental powers to stop her.

That was the real purpose of the Trials of the Five Dragons.

And now, with all trials complete, the claws of Kirin, seeking usurpation, point toward the Yellow Dragon Palace.

Kirin

The 'Sixth Divine Beast' who belongs to none of the Five Elements. She existed in primordial times before the land of Oryongcheonju was fully formed and fought for supremacy against the Yellow Dragon before he split. Thus, she is older than any of the current Five Dragons, and her power and authority are superior to any single dragon.

For 1,000 years, she has been watching for an opportunity to reclaim hegemony over Oryongcheonju. She intends to vent a millennium of resentment by defeating Guest, who has passed all the trials and inherited all the elemental powers of the Five Dragons.

If Kirin had won the ancient war, the current Oryongcheonju would not be a continent of five dragons, but a continent ruled by the 'Four Symbols' in the cardinal directions and Kirin in the center.

Yellow Dragon (Past)

The Yellow Dragon of primordial times before his power was divided into the five dragons. He opposed Kirin and, after a life-and-death struggle, emerged victorious to claim hegemony over Oryongcheonju. However, due to the excessively long conflict, the Yellow Dragon no longer had the capacity to rule the world as a single entity.

Thus, he decided to divide the world into five, creating five dragons that follow the principles of the Five Elements to serve as the Emperor's proxies in ruling the continent. Furthermore, in preparation for Kirin's return, he devised the 'Trials of the Five Dragons' system, hoping for a human to appear who could unite the elemental powers.

Hwang Arin, the current Yellow Dragon, inherited the most power and memory from the original single entity, but she is not essentially the exact same being; she is like a fragment split off from him.
