He took a deep drag of smoke and exhaled it toward the sky.
The faint clamor of lunch break drifted up from below. A peaceful school. A peaceful, shitty everyday life.
Ryo took one more puff, then pulled a small bottle of whiskey he'd smuggled in his pocket and cracked the cap open with his teeth. Right in the middle of the day.
Then, the railing of the emergency stairs let out a rusty creak. At the same time, the sound of someone's footsteps coming up could be heard.
Tch. He clicked his tongue softly and quickly shoved the whiskey bottle into a crevice in the concrete behind him. With the cigarette still in his mouth, he switched his phone screen to the student attendance app.
The footsteps drew closer. Ryo blew smoke to the side and peered down the stairs.
