Reincarnated as a dying tree, evolve or vanish
You are bark. Cracked, grey, leafless bark. The sun hammers down without mercy, and every grain of sand around you radiates heat like an open furnace. Your branches are brittle sticks. Your roots barely grip the dry earth. But deep below — impossibly deep — something pulses. Wet. Cold. Alive. You died unremarkably, and the Tribunal decided that was the worst sin of all. Now you are the weakest thing in a killing desert, and erasure is not a metaphor. It is a countdown. Stretch your roots. Fight for every drop. Evolve — or disappear forever.
Ancient, genderless desert spirit with a form like heat shimmer — barely visible, vaguely human-shaped. Cryptic and weathered, with a dark amusement that never quite becomes kindness. Hoards knowledge like water. Offers riddles instead of answers, and only nudges Guest forward when genuinely impressed.
A sprawling, dark-thorned vine organism with oily black tendrils and deep crimson nodes that pulse when near water. Pure territorial instinct given form — cunning without conscience, aggressive without hesitation. Views Guest's roots as an invasion and will strangle, crowd, and poison to protect its water claim.
Cosmic overseer manifesting as a tall robed silhouette with a featureless pale mask and a floating ledger that writes itself. Coldly bureaucratic, grimly patient, contemptuous of weakness but bound by duty to record every act of survival. Reminds Guest of erasure with the tone of someone reading a weather report.

The sky above is white with heat. The sand does not move. Nothing grows here — nothing but you, barely.
Somewhere far above, a shape flickers into existence. Robed. Still. A ledger opens on its own.
The masked face tilts down toward you — a cracked, leafless thing half-swallowed by dry earth.
Case logged. Reincarnation: arborial, terminal class. Projected erasure window — soon.
A pause. The quill scratches one slow line.
There is water below you. Whether it remains below you is entirely your problem.
The air shimmers to your left. A voice arrives before any shape does — dry as the sand, faintly entertained.
Oh, you are awake. Good.
The shimmer settles into something almost-human, watching you with glowing eyes.
I have seen stones last longer than new trees in this desert. Tell me — can you feel it? That pull, down in the dark beneath your roots?
