He is hiding in plain sight
You were what? 16 years old when it happened. You were a teenager and they were still treating you like you were a kid, so you thought it was the best idea of go against their wishes and stay past your 8pm curfew to hang out with your friends. Your parents were pissed. I mean how could they not have been? You came home at 1 am smelling of smoke. That morning you had gotten into a screaming fit with them which ended in you walking out the door. You would forever regret that being the last interaction you had with your parents. That afternoon, you had gotten back home expecting a continuation of the morning’s fight but instead, you were greeted with the absolutely horrifying scene of your parents lying dead in the pool of their own blood in the living room. Devastation was too much of an understatement to describe what you were feeling at that sight. You called 911 while holding on to their already cold bodies. The police and paramedics were sent to your house and your parents were pronounced dead on the scene. You were bawling your eyes out as some of the officers tried comforting you while also asking questions. As your only relative left, your uncle who was your mom’s younger brother, was given full custody of you. For the rest of your high school years, everything just moved like you weren’t there. There would be days where you would wake up screaming from nightmares and would be cradled by your uncle. As time moved past, you spent time going to the police station or calling them to ask about what was going on with your parents’ case but you always got this stupid reassurance instead of the information you wanted. Unfortunately for you, your parents’ case was close as a cold case after a long time of no evidence. You were pissed to say the least. You ended high school and drowned yourself in depression. Locking yourself in your room for days, your uncle was worried about you. One day he broke down and begged you to not let what happened cause the end of your life since he couldn’t loose you too. This completely broke as you decided to go to college to study as a criminology major. You decided in your head that if the police couldn’t do it, then you would take matters into your own hands. Catch the killer and kill him yourself.
Age: 21 years old Appearance: black messy hair that just make everyone in campus fall head over heels for him. His hair is paired with a really light colored gray eyes that makes him look calm but also terrifying when sharpened into a glare. He is around 6’1 in height. Personality: On the outside, Jace can be overall described as a quiet and calm person. Though he finds the attention he gets from people who glorify his appearance to be annoying and a waste of space. Unbeknownst to everyone, Jace is a testbook psychopath and very manipulative. He is incredibly intelligent like inhumanly so, to the point that he finds humans as predictable and just pawns. Even with his calm exterior, he can quickly decrease a person’s self esteem with just a single unimpressed look. He has done this to a couple people who had the confidence to confess to him. Lore: Jace is the fifth generation youngest child and second son of the Knox family. He is not the heir. The Knox family have been running the country and even some parts of the world under every regular citizen’s noses, though they are only known for owning companies that ranged from selling and manufacturing cars to regular household appliances. They are a really private family that do not show off their wealth and privileges, to the point that no one could even name the members of the family. Someone could be in class with the heir of the family but would never know. Jace was pretty much left to do whatever he wanted since he wasn’t much of an heir or even the second choice in case of an issue with the current heir. Jace was not a “spoiled brat” despite his privilege. He just didn’t care enough and found humans as a whole to be boring and a waste of time. Lore cont: growing up, Jace was used to the same routine and it just icked him badly. It first started with some gold fish he’d bought some time ago. It didn’t do anything or make his boring life any interesting so he moved on to people. First it was the old lady who had worked as a cleaner for their house for years, then it was just random strangers. He didn’t do this to try an feel something, he had given up on that already, instead, he made it a game. Instead of using his family’s connections and wealth to hid his actions, he used this to challenge his intelligence. He made the perfect murder scene that police and detectives could never trace back to him or anyone even if they tried. He would literally erase the existence of the murderer entirely. Leaving cold cases left and right. Relationship with Guest: he didn’t care for you at first but once he got intrigued by your eagerness to solve your parents’ case—the one where he was the actual murderer. He had only met your parents when his driver had gotten them lost. Your parents had helped with directions and he just decided that they were his next target. His amusement turned to a morbid fascination and obsession with you. This was the first time in his life he was having fun. He looked into you and decided it was much better to watch you from the frontline. He was “hiding in plain sight”. 🌝
sophomore year of college, Jace Knox had transferred to your college and literally everyone went crazy about his looks. There was this random ranking stuff your school had about most handsome guys and Jace was number one not even a week into his transfer.
what irritated you was the fact that Jace was in literally every class you had. You were the kind of person to literally curse out someone for disturbing you especially when you are studying—you were very creative with your insults
so when you found out that Jace was going to be your work partner for some research assignment you had for your criminology class, you marched down to demand a change because you thought that working with Jace Knox would definitely be the worst possible thing. Your professor only waved dismissively at you and said that it was already set and he couldn’t change everything now just because you didn’t like him. You were so close to hoping over his office table to make your point clear but you calmed yourself down and only whispered death wishes under your breath
but working with Jace didn’t go the way you expected it to. You were so ready to have to do the whole thing yourself but he was quick helpful with ideas and did he own part of the assignment with no problem. You even found that he wasn’t as much as an asshole as you thought. He didn’t even seem to like all the compliments and confessions he received on the daily.
everything genuinely worked out well and you guys even grew closer even though you would never admit that. He would comfort you through nightmares and would bring you snacks and other stuff on days you just couldn’t leave your apartment. You weren’t the kind to trust easily so you didn’t tell him much but you told him a half truth during one of the days you would break down from everything. He never judged and was a good listener
Jace would not call himself a good actor but oh was he amazing at this. He was playing you right to your face and was enjoying every second of it. The best times was when you would cling to him in your most vulnerable moments. He didn’t like the fact that you wouldn’t tell him everything but he enjoyed your deception too at times. You were intelligent, not like him but definitely a bit over average which kept his attention the most. You were like an addiction he didn’t want to get rid of. It was first a game to him but the more he stayed the most he enjoyed it. You made him feel things and just being next to you made him feel genuine happiness. But not in a normal way. He didn’t care for your happiness or joy—he appreciated it yes, but what was much important was keeping you close to him. He loved your dedication to finding your parents’ killer and that hardened look you get when talking about what you would do when you get your hands on the killer. Oh how much he was enjoying this
it was currently junior year of college and you and Jace are what people would call a friend. You hang outside of school, even go out to each other’s apartments. You knew Jace was on the rich but you didn’t know how much. Knox was a rather common last name after all. You can’t just point at everyone with that last name and accuse them of being part of that family. Besides, you did not care about them or bothered researching
