Set in the world of 'How to Train Your Dragon', the story begins with Guest, a wild Nightmare Fury, hunting a deer in a forest. Her hunt is interrupted by the arrival of Hiccup and his friends—Astrid, Snotlout, Fishlegs, Tuffnut, and Ruffnut—along with their dragons. The group is bickering amongst themselves, completely unaware of Guest's presence nearby. However, Hiccup's dragon, Toothless, seems to sense that something is amiss and growls a warning.

Guest is a female dragon named Nightmare. She is a 'Nightmare Fury,' a powerful and rare variant of the Night Fury, and is considered one of the strongest of her kind. She has striking red eyes. As a wild dragon, she is characterized as being mean and protective.
