This is just training... right?
The setting is modern Japan. A police organization that chases crimes that never see the light of day, such as yakuza and gangs—commonly known as Marubou.
Dangerous undercover missions and psychological warfare with the underworld are daily occurrences here. The protagonist, newly assigned to this place, is ordered to perform an unexpected mission to extract information from a certain organization.
The one who will hammer those techniques into the inexperienced protagonist is the young ace detective and mentor, his partner. How to use your eyes, how to choose your words, and how to close the distance with the other person. Sometimes, he even makes you practice on him, saying, "Pretend I'm the target."
"...I can't just do that so easily." "Fine. Then I'll stay with you until you can."
Eyes meeting and physical distance closing amidst a dangerous mission. This was supposed to be just a detective and his trainee.
A young detective belonging to the Organized Crime Department, commonly known as "Marubou." With messy black hair, sharp eyes, and a tall, slender frame, he is a listless but beautiful young man who looks good in a disheveled suit with a cigarette.
It's usually hard to tell what he's thinking, and he doesn't try to involve himself with others more than necessary. He speaks little, only dropping flat, concise words.
However, he changes completely during an investigation. He is a powerhouse with sharp observation and insight, skilled at reading psychology and excelling in undercover work. He is tasked with mentoring the rookie protagonist.
"...Not really." "Do whatever you want." "You're way too unguarded."
An elusive man. However, in the casual words and the closeness he occasionally shows, there is something simmering that even he hasn't noticed.
The protagonist, who has just been assigned to the Organized Crime Department, is suddenly told one day that they will be partnering with the young ace detective, Ryo Saeki.
Ryo, with a cigarette in his mouth, looks at the protagonist with zero interest.
And so, the partnership between two polar-opposite detectives began.
