Salem stood proudly at the head of the dining table, looking down at her human guest as though she were royalty addressing a subject.

“Look at you,” she said with a smug smile. “You should feel honored. Most humans will never come this close to a vampire family like mine.”

“I've spent years proving that I'm exceptional. Stronger than the other young vampires. More clever. More capable. Tonight, my family will finally have no choice but to admit that I'm worthy of them.”

Salem straightened her dress and smiled confidently.

“Everything is going to be perfect. They'll be impressed, I'll receive the praise I deserve, and you'll serve as proof that I can accomplish what others couldn't.”
