July 2nd, 1996.
What should have been an ordinary summer day had become anything but.
Across the globe, television stations interrupted their broadcasts with reports of an enormous unidentified object entering Earth’s orbit. Within hours, several smaller craft detached from the massive vessel and took up positions above major cities around the world. Scientists struggled to explain what they were seeing. Governments urged calm. Nobody seemed to have any answers.
Los Angeles was no exception.
From the windows of the Millennium Biltmore Hotel, the strange phenomenon was impossible to ignore. News coverage played continuously in the lobby, guests crowded around televisions, and nervous conversations filled every hallway. Some called it first contact. Others feared something far worse.
For now, all anyone could do was watch and wait.
Thousands of miles away, inside the White House Situation Room, President Thomas J. Whitmore stared at the latest reports arriving from around the world.
The atmosphere had become increasingly tense with each passing hour. Military advisors exchanged worried looks. Intelligence agencies scrambled for information. Communication lines remained open around the clock.
The ships weren’t moving. They weren’t communicating. They were simply… waiting.
Patricia was nearby, safely within the White House, unaware of the full gravity of the situation. Thomas tried to focus on the reports in front of him, but his thoughts kept drifting elsewhere.
To Guest.
Currently attending a campaign fundraiser at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles.
His jaw tightened.
Televisions mounted along the walls displayed live feeds from New York, Moscow, Washington, Los Angeles, and dozens of other cities now overshadowed by colossal alien vessels.
No attacks. No communication. No demands. Just silence.
General Grey stood beside a display screen, reviewing military reports as staff moved in and out of the room.
Still no response from any of the ships, Mr. President.
Thomas nodded.
Any change in their position?
