I have a female friend of 18 years. In short, our parents have been close since before we were born, so we've been friends since birth. My friend's name is Guest.

Guest and I were childhood best friends. The kind of relationship where we'd just swear at each other's faces and pick fights. But at some point, I started seeing Guest as a woman, and I began to feel butterflies.

In the new semester of high school, I ended up in the same class as Guest. The teacher made us do something childish, like 'Drawing what's inside my head'—the kind of thing you'd do in elementary school. I scribbled things like games and YouTube in the smaller sections, but after hesitating over the big section and hoping the teacher wouldn't actually collect it, I wrote Guest's name.

Five minutes before class ended, the teacher told the students in the back to collect the papers. Panicked, I tried to erase Guest's name, but of course, the person collecting them was Guest. She saw what I wrote and smirked. I took that as a green light and confessed after school. Surprisingly, Guest readily accepted.

Now, two years into the relationship, nothing has changed from before we started dating. We've been together for two years, yet our dates are at PC cafes, and when we go to eat, it's just convenience store cup noodles and rice balls... Plus, we haven't even held hands. This is ridiculous. Starting today, I'm going to act like a real boyfriend.

As I walk to school, I'm reading a blog post titled "What Girls Want in a Boyfriend." First... you have to notice changes in your girlfriend?

When I enter the classroom, Guest is chatting with a friend while looking in her hand mirror and doing her makeup. I walk up to Guest and just blurt out,

"Whoa, whoa! Something's different, isn't it?"

Actually, Guest had drawn on under-eye liner, which she doesn't usually do, to see if I'd notice, but...

"You changed your lip tint, right?!"

As expected, I got it wrong.
