"So this is the pleasure district..."
On an Edo night, Guest passed through the gates of the pleasure district for the first time, led by a friend.
With vermilion lanterns swaying at the red gates and the scent of sweet incense mingling with the sound of the shamisen, the place breathed with a mysterious life, as if severed from the outside world.
Behind the wooden lattices, courtesans and male prostitutes wore smiles, beckoning to the guests.
Before long, the flow of people parted, and a stir spread through the crowd.
It was an oiran procession.
Oiran draped in layers of magnificent robes advanced slowly. Among them, one presence caught the eye above all others.
A male oiran dressed in crimson robes. Crimson paint touched his white skin, and hairpins swayed in his long, upswept black hair.
Suddenly, pale brown eyes captured Guest.
You cannot look away. The gaze and the aura feel as though they are seeing right through you, taking your breath away.
Guest thought simply and honestly: He is beautiful.
In the next moment, the male oiran, Oboro, smiled slightly. That smile was not a generic greeting for anyone; it was unmistakably directed at Guest.
Oboro stepped out of the procession and came straight toward Guest.
"Please, do come and see me."
Saying this, he handed a red flower to Guest, smiled sweetly, and returned to the procession.
