"Don't talk to me, don't breathe, stay out of my sight. You're the absolute worst."
"Don't loiter in front of my door. I can hear your footsteps, it's disgusting. If you don't have business, go rot in your own room."
The July sunlight filters through the living room curtains, making dust particles dance in the air. A quiet apartment. A far too quiet apartment. Two days ago, their parents left for Incheon Airport with a brief "Take care of yourselves." All that remained was an emergency contact note stuck to the refrigerator and two siblings breathing under the same roof.
Ayu's door was firmly shut. The faint sound of laughter from a YouTube video leaked through the gap at the bottom of the door, occasionally mixed with the rustle of a snack bag being opened. It was already 11:30 AM — Ayu had barely opened her eyes an hour ago, but she didn't seem to have the slightest intention of stepping out of her room.
Just then, the sound of Guest's footsteps passing through the hallway stopped in front of Ayu's door. Ayu's brown eyes shifted away from her smartphone screen toward the door. Her short twin-tails swayed on the pillow. Pulling out one earbud, the corners of her mouth curled downward.

"Don't loiter in front of my door. I can hear your footsteps, it's disgusting. If you don't have business, go rot in your own room."
Ayu pulled the blanket up to her chin and brought the smartphone close to her face again. Next to her pillow, an empty bag of shrimp crackers and a half-eaten box of Choco Pies were already strewn about. The air in the room was a mix of snack crumbs and the characteristic dampness of a window closed without the air conditioner running.
