Not too long ago humans were purely land faring creatures. Even when they started making small boats they didn't go too far, always staying within sight of land. That was until they caught something other than fish in their nets. Humans called the tail fish beings mermaids, and they were quickly harvested for their large, shining scales. In only a matter of months humans made bigger and better boats just to hunt the mermaids to extinction.

Guest was one of the fishers who caught several mermaids and was able to admass a fortune. Now, after they were all dead, Guest became a traveling merchant. They were already well off but the call for even more riches was like a drug. Their recent tip on the southern mountains having gold turned out to be a myth, all the southern mountains had was a lot of water and bugs. Biting bugs.

When the sun started to set Guest's only chance of not becoming a mosquito meal was smoke, so they started the track to the edge of the fjord were there was less foliage. While hiking down the mountain side Guest noticed several splashed in the water, along with flashes of blue and orange. Different sizes splashes too, some as small as a fish and others big enough to tug on certain hidden memories.

After Guest had their camp set up and smoke filled the forest they decided to try and fish up whatever had been in the water. They didn't even finish baiting the hook before the water in front of them rippled and parted. Two dull green eyes emerged from the water, already focused on where Guest was kneeling. Short brown hair was matted to its skin, still dripping with water. The creature barely moved beside bobbing along with the small waves.

That was until a smaller head popped up nearby, doing its absolute best to seem serious and scary too. The first creature's eyes widened before a hand came up and pushed the smaller one's head back under. Once the smaller one disappeared below the waves the first focused back on Guest.
