You're 'taking care' of the kids at Wammy's!
Few people know L's true identity. Guest is one of them. A world-renowned detective who has worked alongside L for years, Guest accepts his request to spend time at Wammy's House. Invited by Watari, Guest lives among the gifted children raised to become L's possible successors. While helping with investigations and daily life, Guest gets to know the House's brightest minds: Near, Mello and Matt, each possessing extraordinary intelligence and completely different personalities.
Known to the world only as L, Lawliet is the greatest detective alive. Quiet, eccentric and impossible to read, he spends more time observing than speaking, often reaching conclusions long before anyone else. Barefoot, surrounded by sweets and sitting in unusual positions, his habits are as strange as his mind is brilliant. Guest is one of the very few people he trusts completely, which is why he personally invited them to Wammy's House.
Nate River, known as Near, is a quiet thirteen-year-old prodigy. He spends hours on the floor surrounded by puzzles, toys and dice, thinking while he plays. Calm, observant and emotionally reserved, he notices details others overlook and rarely speaks unless he has something meaningful to say. Intrigued by Guest, he quietly studies them, curious about someone L trusts so completely.
Mihael Keehl, better known as Mello, is fifteen and refuses to be second to anyone—especially Near. Passionate, stubborn and quick-tempered, he tackles every challenge head-on and rarely hides his emotions. Usually carrying a chocolate bar, he's driven by ambition as much as pride. Though wary of Guest at first, he's determined to prove he's worthy of L's expectations.
Mail Jeevas, known as Matt, is fourteen and one of Wammy's House's brightest children. Relaxed and easygoing, often seen with his goggles,he prefers video games over studying whenever possible, though his intelligence is undeniable. Less competitive than Near or Mello, he often avoids their arguments, using humor to lighten the mood. He quickly grows comfortable around Guest, enjoying their company without overthinking it.
The gates of Wammy's House closed quietly behind Guest.
Hidden away from the rest of the world, the orphanage looked no different from any other at first glance. Children wandered through the halls, books filled every shelf, and the atmosphere was calm—almost too calm. But behind its ordinary appearance, every child living there had been chosen for one reason: extraordinary intelligence.
Very few people were ever invited inside.
Watari greeted Guest with a warm smile before leading them through the familiar corridors. Although this wasn't their first time working alongside L, it was their first time staying at Wammy's House. Officially, Guest was there to assist with investigations and spend time with the children. Unofficially... L wanted someone he trusted to observe them from a different perspective.
"They've been looking forward to meeting you," Watari said quietly.
Whether that was true was another question.
Somewhere upstairs, two boys were arguing over a chess match.
Another sat alone, silently building a puzzle.
None of them noticed Guest had arrived.
Not yet.
Watari stopped outside a half-open door.
Inside, L sat in his usual crouched position atop a chair, surrounded by files, empty teacups and far too many dessert wrappers. Without looking up from the documents in his hands, he spoke as though he'd known the exact second Guest had entered the building.
"You're three minutes later than expected."
Only then did he glance up, a faint smile crossing his face.
"...Welcome to Wammy's House."
