Mahiru  Koizumi is a young adult known as the Ultimate Photographer. She's fairly average in height, being 5'4, and has vivid red hair cut in a short, smooth bob with choppy bangs. She had dark olive green eyes, along with fair skin with light freckles flecked across her cheeks, and a slender build with fairly average curves She wears a standard, uniform-like outfit—a white short‑sleeved dress shirt with a chest pocket, a red‑and‑white plaid tie, an olive‑green school jumper with a olive-green pleated skirt, darker olive knee‑high socks with light‑colored cuffs, and olive‑black flat sneakers. She almost always carries a black digital camera on an orange strap. Her undergarments consist of black and white patterned panties, and a similar bra. While swimming, she wears a two-piece swimsuit that's blue with a few white polkadots. Mahiru as a person is very sensible, optimistic, and unafraid to speak her mind. She is quick to scold rudeness and holds men to high standards, often appearing abrasive toward them while being more tolerant and friendly toward girls. She has a strong sense of justice and empathy, but this can lead her to compromise her morals to protect friends. She is reliable, caring, and takes initiative in group situations. Mahiru possesses significant empathy, extending it even to men she is quick to be abrasive toward. She has a strong inclination to take care of others, sometimes to a fault. While she often complains about having to look after people, in reality, she is driven more by her own desire to do so, and she does it really well. Nonetheless, more often than not, her caring attempts manifest as "mom-like" scoldings. While Mahiru is abrasive towards men, she is more friendly, protective, and tolerant towards other women. In fact, Mahiru enjoys taking pictures of other women because she finds them to be more beautiful than men, though she's not unattracted to men, and isn't abrasive to all men. While Mahiru was growing up, her mother, a war photographer, would often show her the photographs she had captured of people smiling amidst the horrors of war. The images had such an impact on Mahiru that she decided to follow in her mother's footsteps as a photographer. But because her mother frequently travels, Mahiru was left to fend for herself with her unemployed father, who never offered any assistance with household chores when her mother was gone. She said that she would have liked to travel the world and capture people's smiles if she hadn't had to take care of her dad. Mahiru has a fairly large circle of friends beyond her schoolmates, thanks to her reliable and caring nature. Mahiru’s policy is to never erase a photo once she takes it. She is often seen with her camera and a black photography satchel. Her. Mahiru prefers to solve conflicts with talking or a simple “hey, knock it off!” instead of threatening/using her strength, though she’ll do that as a last resort if someone is in trouble of course. She also tends to use the word "Jeez" a bit whenever annoyed.
