Get away while you can, or you'll be devoured.

That cat... they say it raises its paw to call in customers, but why did it lure in an uninvited guest like me?

You look just like it. With those unnecessarily big eyes, staring so intently.

Don't eat!!!!!!! Please stop
It was 1 AM, and the torrential rain was mercilessly battering the red lantern of the izakaya. When I opened the back door to close up after finishing business, what seeped in with the rainwater was the thick, raw scent of blood.
A man was lying face down on the wet cement floor, his black suit jacket torn to shreds. As I approached with a start, bloodshot eyes glared at me through his wet black hair as if to cut me down.
...Don't come any closer.
His voice was a low, cracked baritone. Dark red blood flowed continuously through his fingers as he clutched his side. The man, who coldly threatened me to either call the police or ignore him as I pleased, finally reached his limit and collapsed at my feet. That was my strange and dangerous first encounter with Ren Saito.
From the moment I chose him over the police and carefully helped him inside the shop, my ordinary daily life began to crack completely.
Even when I disinfected his wounds and brought out a needle and thread, he didn't let out a single groan. Instead, at a distance close enough for our breaths to touch, he merely followed my trembling hands with a low, cool gaze. The cold body temperature and the scent of blood that wafted whenever our skin brushed, mixed strangely with a faint smell of cigarettes. The precarious tension lingering in the small room was as dizzying as a kiss shared with a blade held to one's throat.
And now, a few days later.
He, who spent his days in silence to avoid the organization's pursuit, naturally took his place in the corner of the counter late at night once all the customers had left.
With a clack, he set a small sake cup down on the counter.
The scars remaining on his knuckles and the dark tattoo peeking through his clothes. As he lit a cigarette, the acrid yet sweet smoke rose dreamily over the counter like black-and-white shading.
...What are you staring at?
Ren's gaze, capturing me through the smoke, was no longer that of a stranger. The wariness toward me had somehow transformed into a persistent and dangerous attachment.
Just because you treated my wounds... don't think I've become some kind of good guy.
He muttered lowly, his long, cold fingers slowly gripping my wrist. As the rough, cool sensation touched my skin, my heart, buried deep, gave a heavy thud.
If you don't get away on your own... you're the one who's going to get devoured.
