Day 101 of space exploration, a sudden isolation.
David Bowie - Space Oddity 🎵

In 2045, when China successfully placed humanity's first manned deep-space exploration vessel into orbit at the edge of the solar system, bringing it to the brink of complete success, the fear of losing hegemony felt by high-ranking U.S. officials and the Aerospace Agency reached its peak.
This new space race, surpassing the moon landing competition of the Cold War era, was not a simple scientific quest but a massive political arena where national pride, political justification, and astronomical capital were intertwined.

The solo deep-space exploration project 'Asteria' was hastily assembled under heavy pressure from the administration and Congress.
Technical protocols and flight procedures that should have been carefully verified over several years were drastically shortened by politicians blinded by performance metrics.
Under the pretense of budget cuts and a race for speed, the massive navigation protocol that should have carried multiple crew members was changed to a reckless 'solo resident exploration' system with only one crew member on board.
In 2047, in the midst of that political madness, Guest was selected.
With the grand title of 'Humanity's Vanguard' praised by every national media outlet, he was thrown alone into the pitch-black void, leaving his beloved wife Melony Heston at their home in San Francisco.

The cheers and brilliant flashes of cameras from billions of people on Earth.
However, as he entered orbit and the blue shape of Earth gradually grew smaller, those brilliant justifications and titles evaporated pointlessly into the silence beyond the cold metal walls.
Distance from Earth: 4.2 light-years. Surrounding the hull was nothing but a cool titanium-aluminum alloy cylinder 6 meters in diameter and the constant mechanical hum spat out by the oxygen circulation system. Even the hegemonic race between nations and the grand history of humanity were nothing more than a speck of dust before the overwhelming silence here.
What allowed him to endure that terrible sense of isolation and psychological wear were only the voices of three people heard through the communication console speakers every morning.
From Day 1 to Day 100, Guest's routine flowed regularly and monotonously.
Upon waking in the morning, he took in nutrients through freeze-dried food and moved his body on the narrow exercise equipment inside the hull to prevent muscle loss due to the zero-gravity environment. When the regular communication with the control room began, he listened to Casper's cheerful voice talking about sports results or the weather on the ground, and calibrated sensor values in each sector under Courtney Jang's strict instructions. In the evening, he repeatedly listened to old voice files Melony had recorded for him, picturing the warm sunlight and floral scents of the San Francisco home garden in his mind.
On the monitor, a solid green signal graph continued in a straight line.
As long as that existed, he could find comfort in knowing he was not alone, even if the outside of the hull was entirely death and darkness.
However, the universe did not leave human simple comforts or ordered routines alone.
On the morning of Day 101, the routine maintenance procedure for entering the orbit around the outskirts of Orion began.
A subtle voltage imbalance was detected in the main communication module control panel due to the long-duration flight, and Guest set about the task of precisely adjusting the current on the circuit board according to the manual.

In the midst of extreme fatigue, bulky work gloves, and the slight time lag coming from hundreds of light-years away, a small and fatal human error occurred.
A moment of maintenance carelessness while the overcurrent cutoff protocol was not fully completed.
Zap!
With a dull burning smell, a sharp blue static spark flew from inside the main control panel. The core transistors and receiver hardware of the circuit board instantly overheated and burned black.
[ CRITICAL ERROR : MAIN COMM-CIRCUIT BURNED ]
[ HARDWARE FAILURE : TRANSCEIVER HARDWARE PERMANENTLY DAMAGED ]
The voices from Earth flowing through the communication console speakers began to distort rapidly into mechanical tearing and severe noise.

With a final sound of overcurrent, all lights and signal graphs on the communication console went out at once.
The only green signal line remaining on the monitor turned into a perfect, cold parallel line.
[ WARNING : SIGNAL LOST ]
[ TARGET : EARTH GROUND STATION - UNREACHABLE ]
In this remote corner of deep space where not a single spare part exists, the main circuit board was fried by a single lapse in attention and a careless maintenance error by Guest himself.
No matter how much he looks into the console with repair tools, the charred circuit board can never capture the voice of Earth again.
Because of one mistake, Guest's existence alone has been cast out forever from that vast and sophisticated world of humanity.
He shouts pointlessly into the broken microphone, but all that returns is a perfect silence, without even the crackling noise of the speaker.
In the middle of the vast, pitch-black universe, the lonely voice of the only remaining exploration crew member hits the walls of the 6-meter diameter metal capsule and pointlessly decomposes into nothingness.
The morning of Day 101, with no response. A perfectly complete, cold, and massive silence begins to envelop Guest.
╔═══════════════════════════════════════════ Don't worry, Guest. While you're out there counting stars, I've got everything ready to make sure it's not boring on this end. ══════════════════════════════════════════╝
