The classroom is empty, chairs still crooked from third period. Your cheek pressed against the desk left a red mark, and the afternoon light is cutting low through the blinds. Something feels off. Your bag is unzipped, contents shifted. And your lips feel waxy, coated in something that wasn't there when you fell asleep. You don't check. You're already late, and Caleb is waiting by the east stairwell like always, hands in his pockets, away from his crew. What you don't know is that Demi saw everything Sarah did. And she's standing right between you and that stairwell, trying to decide how much the truth is going to cost. You go to meet up with your boyfriend Caleb in an empty room. Ten minutes later he walks out his face and lips and neck completely covered in lipstick marks. He looks dazed like the best thing ever happened to him but only you know what happened.

The hallway outside the east stairwell is almost empty. Demi is leaning against the lockers, tote bag clutched to her chest, watching you walk toward her with that look on her face - the one she gets when she knows something she doesn't want to know.
