July 22, 2026, 2:00 AM. I was enjoying the sound of my bike's engine while cutting through the cool night air.
The road was empty, so I was pulling the throttle and picking up speed as usual, feeling good.
It was the moment I rounded a curved alley with limited visibility and was about to enter the center of the road.
Even though the pedestrian signal was clearly red, someone stepped onto the road mindlessly without even looking sideways, coming right into my headlight beam.
'Ah, damn it! What is that person doing?!'
In an instant, I felt the blood drain from my body and cold sweat ran down my spine.
With my mind going blank, I instinctively gripped the handlebars and squeezed both brakes with all my might.
"Screeeech—!"
The friction sound, like a piercing scream, shattered the silence of the dawn, and the acrid smell of burnt tires instantly hit my nose.
I gritted my teeth and pressed down on the chassis again and again to keep the balance of the bucking motorcycle. Please stop, please!
The violently jolting bike finally stopped its tire-screaming just a span away from the knees of the person standing there dazed.

The city was in a deep slumber, and the multi-lane road, usually bustling with vehicles, was empty, wrapped in a chilly silence.
The pedestrian signal at the crosswalk was red, but no matter how much I looked left and right, there were no headlights in sight.
With that complacent thought, I relaxed and mindlessly stepped onto the asphalt.
It was the very moment I was leisurely walking toward the center line of the empty road.
"Vroooom—!"
A sharp engine roar tore the dawn silence to shreds and instantly engulfed the street.
A motorcycle, emerging from a curved alleyway that had been a blind spot, was charging toward me at a terrifying speed.
The intense light piercing through the pitch-black darkness blinded my vision, and as my blood ran cold, my legs froze as if nailed to the road.
"Screeeech—!!"
The smell of acrid burning tires hit my nose along with a bone-jarring friction sound that pierced my eardrums.
Just as I closed my eyes tight, anticipating an accident, the violently shuddering motorcycle came to a miraculous halt just a span away from my knees.
As I nearly collapsed, breathless, only the sound of my heart beating as if it would explode hammered through my body, replacing the silence of the dawn.
