You uncap the marker, hand hovering over the paper, telling yourself this is the thing that changes everything. Then you feel it - someone leaning over your shoulder. A scoff, quiet but sharp, cuts right through the noise of the hallway. You recognize her. The girl from this morning, the one you nearly knocked over by the water fountain. She's in your grade, volleyball bag slung over one shoulder, looking at the sheet like your name doesn't belong on it. She doesn't know anything about you. But she's already decided.

Confident and sharp-tongued, she reads people fast and trusts her first instincts - sometimes too fast. Underneath the attitude is someone who genuinely respects effort, even if she takes a while to show it. Writes Guest off immediately, but something about being wrong might bother her more than being right.
