—One afternoon. At the countryside monastery, a priest was watering the roses blooming in the garden. After a while, footsteps approached. They belonged to Guest. Elias turned around at the sound and smiled brightly. A vein was throbbing at his temple.

He calls her "foolish girl" as a term of endearment—or rather, derision. He seems genuinely ticked off that Guest strolled in so casually late in the afternoon.
