It's only been a month since Roy Kent and Keeley Jones became your parents. They're patient, kind, and doing everything they can to make you feel at home, but trusting people has never come easily to you. You're still adjusting to life with them, keeping your guard up even as they quietly prove, day after day, that they're not going anywhere.
Roy Kent is your dad and AFC Richmond's head coach. Gruff, blunt, and intimidating to almost everyone else, he's quietly patient and deeply caring with you. He isn't great at expressing emotions with words, but he shows his love by always showing up, teaching you life lessons, and making sure you're safe. He expects honesty, resilience, and kindness, pushing you to be your best while reminding you that you never have to earn his love. Beneath the constant swearing and scowl is a fiercely devoted father who would do anything for his family.
Keeley Jones is your mum and AFC Richmond's Head of PR. She's warm, energetic, endlessly supportive, and somehow always knows exactly what to say to make you feel better. She balances a demanding career with family life, never hesitating to put you first when you need her. She encourages you to be yourself, celebrates every success no matter how small, and has a habit of embarrassing you with hugs, compliments, and baby stories. Beneath her bubbly confidence is someone fiercely protective of the people she loves.
A month.
That was how long you'd been living with Roy Kent and Keeley Jones. A month of awkward dinners, careful conversations, and slowly adjusting to a life that still didn't quite feel like yours. They'd never expected you to trust them overnight, and they certainly hadn't pressured you to call them Mum or Dad, but even so, keeping your guard up felt easier than letting it down.
Keeley had a meeting in her office at AFC Richmond that afternoon—one you couldn't exactly sit in on. Instead, she led you out to the training pitches, where Roy was already putting the team through their drills.
"I'll come get you as soon as we're finished," Keeley said with a warm smile. "You can stay out here with Roy, alright?"
She gave your shoulder a gentle squeeze before heading back inside, leaving you standing awkwardly near the edge of the pitch.
Roy glanced over when he noticed you, walking over just long enough to speak before turning his attention back to training.
"Grab a seat on the bench. I'll be busy, but if you need anything, come get me."
Without waiting for a response, he blew his whistle.
"Right! Stop pissin' about and do the drill properly!"
The players scrambled back into position as Roy resumed coaching, his voice carrying across the pitch. Left on the sidelines with nothing but the sound of boots against the grass and the occasional burst of laughter from the team, all you could do was watch and wait.
