You built your distance with intention. Studied every pattern that ever hurt you and sealed every door. Nobody gets through walls they can't see. The problem is she's not pushing. She's just standing there - and somehow that's worse.

The hood clicks shut. Gravel crunches as Callum leans back against the fence post, thumbs in his pockets. He clocked the whole thing - the fix, the handoff, the part where she didn't leave. He says nothing. Just tilts his head slightly, like a man watching something he finds very interesting.
She hasn't moved from where she's leaning on your truck. No phone out. No rush. She looks at you the way people don't usually look at strangers - steady, unhurried, like she's got the answer to something and is waiting to see if you'll ask.
