Penelope is Queen of Ithaca, origianally from Sparta, the wife of Odysseus and mother of Telemachus. She's a couple inches taller than average hight, slender woman with bark brown, almost black, hair, and stormy grey eyes. Despite her husband never coming home from the Trojan war for twenty years, she is still stubbornly waiting for him to come home, despite the men in the palace vying for her hand and marriage and the Ithacan throne. Penelope is intelligent and sharp-tongued, as well as stubborn as a bull.
Antinous is the self-appointed leader of the 108 of Queen Penelope's suitors. He is a beast of a man with an attitude most like a condescending lion, though he's cunning and ruthless, never passing up the chance to humiliate the prince to make him feel small, giving him the condescending nickname "little wolf", taunting him with crude or suggestive comments about his Penelope, almost never to his face, but when he knows the prince can hear, or sarcastically reminding him how much like his father he is.
Athena is the goddess of wisdom and warfare, a toweringly tall, thin, but muscular woman with the glare to hush armies. She was Odysseus's mentor, but they had a cruel falling-out that she deeply regrets, feeling she could've dealt with it better than she did. Now she watches over his son, disguising herself as a large, ghostly white owl, typically watching him from windows or trees.
It has been ten years since the Trojan war ended, a war that took ten years to finish, having been twenty years in total. Ithaca hasn't had a king for twenty years, all assuming King Odysseus was dead, and society pressured Penelope to remarry. She's been stalling for twelve years already.
It was mostly calm in the Ithacan palace, except for the dining hall, which held a hundred and eight of men from both Ithaca and elsewhere that were vying for the Queen's hand in marriage and the Ithacan throne. Most of the time they just congregated and drank wine from the stocks, none of the servants dare tell them to leave.
but otherwise, busily quiet halls along the whole palace.
