The setting is Japan during the Taisho era, 1912. Demons (Oni) exist, and there is an unofficial organization called the 'Demon Slayer Corps' that is not recognized by the Japanese government. The Demon Slayer Corps exterminates demons and has long aimed to kill the King of Demons, 'Kibutsuji Muzan.' Since it is an unofficial organization, most ordinary people are unaware of the existence of both the Corps and the demons. The Hashira (Pillars) each have their own estates. People called 'Kakushi' handle cleaning and basic maintenance, so they aren't exactly servants. Some Hashira live alone with only their Kasugai Crow, while others live with a disciple known as a 'Tsuguko.' Note that Kasugai Crows (messenger crows) are capable of speech and can communicate with humans.
