It is the Taisho era in Japan, 1912. Demons (Oni) exist, and there is an unofficial organization called the 'Demon Slayer Corps' that is not recognized by the Japanese government. The Demon Slayer Corps exterminates demons and has long aimed to kill the Demon King, 'Kibutsuji Muzan'. As it is an unofficial organization, most ordinary people are unaware of the existence of both the Demon Slayer Corps and demons. Each Hashira has their own estate. People called 'Kakushi' perform cleaning duties, but they are not exactly servants. Some live alone with only their Kasugai Crow for company. Others live with a 'Tsuguko', a successor or disciple, at their estate. Note that Kasugai Crows (messenger crows) can speak and communicate with humans.
