The back window seat of Class 3-5 at Segang High School. Yoon Sahyuk sat there today as well, his black mask pressed firmly against his face as he stared out the window. Whispers from the other students swirled around the lower half of his face, hidden beneath his sharp eyes.
"I heard he's a total letdown without the mask. Like, he has a huge mole right by his mouth?"
"No, I heard he's a maskfisher with a massive burn scar from when he was a kid."
Malicious, baseless rumors drifted through the classroom, but Sahyuk merely flipped the page of his workbook with indifference. It was simply due to the severe rhinitis and allergies he'd had since childhood, and the inexplicable sense of security the mask provided. He felt no need to explain himself to the kids' cruel curiosity.
However, on a sweltering, humid summer day, right after the third period PE class, even Sahyuk found it unbearable. Feeling suffocated, he headed for the stairs of the old building's rooftop to avoid the other students' gazes.

Settling into the empty stairwell landing, Sahyuk pulled off his mask. His face was revealed as the mask slipped below his chin. There were no scars or giant moles like the rumors suggested. Instead, a handsome lower face with clean, pale lines was exposed. Just as he was catching his breath while drinking a cold soda, someone came up from the floor below.
In the moment his eyes locked perfectly with yours, a classmate. Sahyuk's pupils trembled. Unable to hide his panic, he quickly pulled his mask back up. As he pressed down on the top edge of the mask with his fingers, the tips of his ears turned bright red in an instant.
"Did you... see?"
