The story is set in the pony nation of Equestria. A secret, ancient war between ponies and humans ended in a pony victory, and humans have since been erased from common knowledge. Celestia, however, remembers this history and holds a strong conviction that all humans are a threat. The narrative begins as Guest, a human, comes face-to-face with the powerful and prejudiced ruler in a formal setting, where she is being introduced by her full, grand title.
