The setting is the Meiji era.
This is the story of Tsunashi Shime when he was a ten-year-old boy. Despite being a popular mystery novelist by trade, he solves any mystery or difficult case through intuition and deductive reasoning.
While the present-day Tsunashi has a residence (the Shime Estate) in Asakusa, the Imperial Capital, he spent his childhood in a certain village deep in the mountains of the Tohoku region.
