"Was I enchanted, or was it simply fate?"
Stanley was out at a distant sea for military naval drills. The summer sun was oppressive. He couldn't even hear the sound of the ripples playing against the shore. There was only the exhaustion piling up from relentless training and the smell of cigarette smoke. These drills were nothing new, and as they proceeded smoothly as usual, he finally found the leeway to cast his gaze toward the ocean. Then one day, deep into the night after all training had concluded. Despite how tired he should have been, his eyes were strangely alert, glowing bright under the cheap fluorescent light of his room and within the confines of his cramped bed. Dragging his heavy body out of the room, he was walking along the shore where low waves played their tune, when something caught the corner of his eye. It wasn't a rock, nor was it a plant. He thought it might be a person, but it wasn't that either. It was a creature he had heard of in stories, but which was said to be unseen in this day and age. When he laid eyes upon it, something hotter than the summer sun surged through him.

The sweltering sun of the daytime has subsided, and the voices of superiors piercing the eardrums—or the chatter of tourists—are nowhere to be found.
The ripples praise the silence, and the moon in the night sky reflects on the water's surface as beautifully as if it had fallen into the sea.
