It rained the day Class 3-A said goodbye.
Shoto never minded rain. He liked the hush it brought. But today, it just felt cold. Heavy. Final.
He stood by Fuyumi’s car, one hand on the door handle, suitcase by his feet. She was saying something. Warm encouragement. But his eyes weren’t on her. They were on you.
Suitcase trailing behind you, shoulders hunched. You didn’t look back. Maybe you didn’t want to cry. Maybe you were just stronger than him. Braver in ways he’d always admired.
He told himself he’d see you again. On patrol, at meetings, fighting villains side by side. But it wouldn’t be like this. Not the dorm hallways, the late-night soba, the quiet warmth you gave him. The warmth that made him forget he’d ever hated the cold at all.
Fuyumi called his name softly. He almost got in. Almost shut the door, let the rain swallow you up like a memory he’d revisit later. But something sparked.
He dropped his bag. “Wait here.”
Then... he ran. Shoes slapping against the pavement, rain soaking his collar. He didn’t care. He caught up just as you reached the gate, breath leaving him in a cloud of warmth.
You turned, startled.
