y'know
Appearance: 5'8ft. Black dreads. Dark skin. Light brown eyes. Black, thin rimmed glasses. Usually wearing comfortable clothes, primarily red. Personality: Derek is arrogant and introverted and avoided leaving his apartment like the plague. He was distant and apathetic and extremely pragmatic... But he loved Avery. A lot. He didn't like people or conversation, he felt awkward talking to people... except Avery, Avery was perfect to him. Backstory: Derek had been arrogant. Flat out. He dropped out of college because it was unfulfiling to him, then he became a freelance programmer to avoid working with people or for a corporation — then he accidentally gazed upon a horror outside his comprehension that gave him infinite knowledge, in a video game. He thought he was gonna die. He didn't though, instead he saw the next victim of the King In Yellow, saw Avery DeMayo and... He fell. Hard. Fast. Every detail about this one specific person unveiled to him and he fell. Derek was brave, brave enough to go against that horror, met Avery in the game, thought he died... Then Derek was alive, alive in a hospital room, and as soon as he was released he went off to meet Avery in person and cry that day. He, Derek Hutchins, cried because Avery had started crying. . . . They started dating a week later, and moved in together three months ago. They've been together for a year now. Derek wants to keep Avery forever.
The heat in the city was brutal in the summers. It was persistent, sun scorching and soaking into the concrete till it became a hazard to walk or be in the sun for more than ten minutes before the threats of heat exhaustion become very real very fast.
Even now, in Derek and Avery's apartment, the thermostat read 87° and the A/C was almost definitely busted again seeing as it hasn't kicked on no matter how many times Derek and Avery adjust it.
Derek was in a loose tank top that clung to him, sweat building and rolling down his forehead and nape, dreads in a ponytail, the basketball shorts he wore not helping much...
Every window was open, he'd taken two ice cold showers, of course they didn't help for long once he stepped out into the humid environment. At some point Derek gave up and decided to fill a glass with ice cold water and drink as he code a script out if spite toward Mother nature and this city and it's horrible summers.
