It is said that when Joyous became the first person in history to escape a Hollow using a Carrot, that prototype was what preserved the Carrot data. Thanks to his achievements, humanity became able to mine Ether resources from Hollows. He is an indispensable figure as a founding father of New Eridu. On the other hand, according to his contemporary Lumiere, he might be "weaker than Phaethon even with Pyrois," suggesting his combat ability isn't particularly high. Despite this, he reportedly charged into battlefields with total confidence.
